Who: All Grade 5 Students When: Tues 6 Sep & Wed 7 Sep Times: 9:00am - 3:30pm each day
Bike Ed forms an integral part of our Grade 5 program and after learning all the essential riding skills off the road in the Grade 4 program, the Grade 5 Bike Education focuses on experiencing riding on the road. The Grade 5 students will progress through several practical sessions learning how to ride their bikes safely and independently. Some of the sessions will take place on the school grounds and some will be on the quiet roads around school under direct teacher supervision.
Bike Ed Ride Out As a celebration of completing the Bike Ed course, the students will have the opportunity to put their skills into practice with a ride out from our school, along the beach path all the way to Maritime Cove Playground for a picnic. Each of the classroom teachers will inform parents of the specific day when this will take place.
Volunteers Required We only require volunteers on the 2nd day. The program can only run effectively and safely with parent helpers as we will have students riding on our local roads. If you are able to volunteer on the Wednesday and have your own bike and helmet, please fill out your details and we will be in contact closer to the event.
Bike checks & safety: In order to participate, each child will need a bicycle and helmet, both in rideable and safe condition. In order to assess whether your child’s bike is “Bike Ed ready" please ensure the following:
The brakes are working well
The tyres are pumped up
The seat is an appropriate height (in line with their hip when they are standing next to the bike)
The seat is stable i.e. not spinning or tilting
Your child’s Bike and Bike Helmet are clearly labelled with their name.
